How to Get the Comet Igniter in ARC Raiders

The Comet Igniter has become one of those items everyone suddenly needs in ARC Raiders, especially after the Shrouded Sky update tied it to the Weather Monitoring System project. The catch is you can't just loot it off shelves or craft it back at base. It only drops from a specific enemy, the Comet ARC, and only if you kill it before it blows itself up. That's what makes farming it a bit stressful at first ARC Raiders Coins.

Comets are easy to recognize once you've seen a few. They're round, roll across open areas, and have a single bright light on the front with a glowing strip along the top. When they're just patrolling, that strip is yellow. The second they spot you, it flashes red and they start charging up. They also drop in from the sky like meteors, leaving visible trails, so if you're paying attention you can sometimes spot one entering the area before it even lands.

The important part is killing it fast. If a Comet reaches you and self-destructs, you'll only get basic scraps. No Igniter. When you take it down properly, it splits into two loot pieces: an outer ring with standard ARC materials and a central core container. The Igniter is inside that core. A lot of newer players grab the outer loot and leave, not realizing they need to interact with the center piece separately. If you don't check the core, you just wasted the fight.

Your loadout matters a lot here. You need enough burst damage to break through its armor before it finishes charging. Heavy weapons are the safest option. The Hullcracker is especially strong if you can land clean shots once the armor cracks. Launchers and other high-impact weapons also work well. If you're running solo without big burst options, you'll need to stay consistent with sustained fire and maybe open with explosives to speed things up. Throwing a grenade from stealth before it fully detects you can give you a big head start.

Positioning is just as important as damage. Fighting a Comet up close is asking for trouble. Stay at mid-range or farther if you can, ideally in an open area where you have room to move. Elevation helps too. Ramps, platforms, or anything that slows its approach gives you extra seconds to finish it off. In squads, it's much easier. Focus fire melts them quickly, and one player can safely grab the core while others watch for threats.

You'll only find Comets in open surface zones. Enclosed areas won't trigger those orbital drops. Maps with wide sky access are your best bet, and certain outdoor hotspots tend to see more activity. Once you learn the common spawn areas, you can build a simple farming loop into your runs instead of wandering around hoping for one to appear.

If you're working on Weather Monitoring System Stage 2, you'll probably need more than one Igniter, so don't think of this as a one-and-done hunt. Treat it as part of your regular route. Clear a surface zone, take down a Comet if it spawns, extract safely, repeat. The key is consistency. Also, make sure you actually bank the Igniter by extracting. It doesn't count until it's safely back at base.

At first, the fight can feel punishing, especially if you misjudge the timer and it detonates in your face. But once you get comfortable with the rhythm—spot, open with burst damage, maintain distance, grab the core—it becomes one of the more satisfying enemy farms in the game ARC Raiders gear. With Shrouded Sky pushing players into surface-heavy objectives anyway, learning to handle Comets cleanly just makes your runs smoother overall. Watch the skies, bring something heavy, and don't forget the core.
